Some New Formalisms for Modelling the Interactions between Plant Architecture, Competition and Carbon Allocation 4th Workshop on Individual-based Structural and Functional Models Some New Formalisms for Modelling the Interactions between Plant Architecture, Competition and Carbon Allocation

چکیده
Dynamical simulation models of tree growth and morphology were developed to address questions about the interrelations between tree structure, functions and environmental conditions on a mesoscale level. The modelling approach has a formal basis in stochastic growth grammars (i.e., extended L-systems), which can be interpreted by the software GROGRA (Growth Grammar Interpreter) yielding time series of attributed 3-D architectural structures representing trees. With appropriate extensions of this string rewriting language (sensitive functions, arithmetical-structural operators, local registers) it is possible to represent environmental control of shoot growth and some simple allocation strategies, and to reproduce typical competition eeects in tree stands qualitatively. The new GROGRA extensions which enable these results are completely documented.

Analysis of interactions among the barriers to JIT production: interpretive structural modelling approach
‘Survival of the fittest’ is the reality in modern global competition. Organizations around the globe are adopting or willing to embrace just-in-time (JIT) production to reinforce the competitiveness. Even though JIT is the most powerful inventory management methodologies it is not free from barriers. Barriers derail the implementation of JIT production system. One of the most significant tasks...
متن کاملFunctional-structural Modelling as a Potential Tool to Assess the Impact of Resource Competition on Arable Communities
Sustainable farming systems that maintain the diversity of arable plant communities and associated invertebrates are a key objective for European agriculture. Plant structure–function analysis and modelling are potentially important tools for studying these arable communities, and for understanding the impact of crop–weed interactions on crop productivity and on diversity in arable food webs. T...
متن کاملAn approach for intermediate-level simulation of carbon allocation in functional-structural plant models
Functional-structural models that include detailed mechanistic representation of underlying physiological processes can be difficult and expensive to build, and the resulting models are often very complicated. This is particularly true when representing carbon allocation, as the various processes involved are relatively poorly understood. Purely empirical models, on the other hand, are simpler ...
متن کاملThe dynamic relationship between plant architecture and competition
In this review, structural and functional changes are described in single-species, even-aged, stands undergoing competition for light. Theories of the competition process as interactions between whole plants have been advanced but have not been successful in explaining these changes and how they vary between species or growing conditions. This task now falls to researchers in plant architecture...
متن کاملUsing L-systems for modeling source-sink interactions, architecture and physiology of growing trees: the L-PEACH model.
Functional-structural plant models simulate the development of plant structure, taking into account plant physiology and environmental factors. The L-PEACH model is based on the development of peach trees. It demonstrates the usefulness of L-systems in constructing functional-structural models. L-PEACH uses L-systems both to simulate the development of tree structure and to solve differential e...
